# FAQ and troubleshooting

## No game appears in the chat

Run `/rncg next`. It tells you why:

* **"starts in 4m 07s"**: automatic games start every `interval-min` to `interval-max` seconds (5 to 10 minutes by default). The countdown starts again after each game, after `/rncg reload` and after a restart.
* **"when 2 player(s) can play"**: not enough players. Lower `automatic-games.min-players`. Players hidden with `/rncg toggle`, in a disabled world or without `rnchatgames.play` (when required) are not counted.
* **"Automatic chat games are off"**: `automatic-games.enabled: false`.

Also check that at least one game is `enabled` with a `weight` above 0, and that your world is not disabled (`worlds`).

## Answers are not detected (chat plugins)

Since 1.3.1, rnChatGames works with chat format plugins like NonChat, which cancel every message to send their own: answers are read before that. On 1.3.0, update, or set `chat.accept-cancelled-messages: true` in `config.yml`.

Answers written in a private or channel chat (faction, town, staff...) are only accepted with `chat.accept-cancelled-messages: true`. Muted players can not answer.

## I changed a file and nothing happened

With `auto-reload: true`, changes apply a few seconds after saving. If not, look at the console: a file with a mistake is not applied and the console shows the line, for example:

```
languages/en.yml has an error and could NOT be loaded.
The mistake is most likely on line 657:
 >> 657 | guess-lower: '{prefix}<white>{guess}...
```

Usual mistakes: a missing `'` at the end, a `'` inside a text (write it twice: `''`), or tabs instead of spaces.

## A new option does not appear in my file

It is added on the next restart (or `/rncg reload`), with a backup of your old file in `backups/`.

## How do I add my own words or questions?

In `content/<language>.yml`. See [Words and questions](/rnsetups/rnchatgames/configuration/content.md).

## Players see English words on a Spanish server

Set `language: es` (and `content-language: auto`). The words and questions follow the language.

## Centered lines look shifted

Change `chat-width` in `config.yml` (default `320`, try `280` or `360`). It depends on the chat width players use.

## The same player appears twice in the top

It happens when a server changes between online and offline mode. It is fixed automatically the next time that player joins. See [Database](/rnsetups/rnchatgames/reference/database.md#online-and-offline-mode).

## Rewards of a player who left

They are kept and given the next time the player joins. See [Rewards](/rnsetups/rnchatgames/configuration/rewards.md#players-who-leave).

## How do I test a game without players?

`/rncg preview <game>` shows it only to you. `/rncg simulate <player> <answer>` answers as if that player wrote it.

## Does it work on Folia?

Yes. One difference: when you change the text or style of the win toasts (`toast` in the language file, `display.win.toast-frame`, or the language) while players are online, the new toast shows after the next restart. Changing advancements with players online is not safe on Folia; the console tells you when this happens. Everything else applies right away.

## Does it work on Spigot?

Yes, 1.21.x and 26.x. The first start needs internet to download the text library (Adventure), and the first time the win toasts are created the server reloads its data once (a second or two). CraftBukkit is not supported.
