# Updating

Install a new version of the setup without losing your server.

Every update comes with a changelog that lists the files that changed.

1. **Back up** your whole server.
2. Read the changelog of the new version.
3. Upload **only the files listed** in the changelog. Do not overwrite your player data or files you changed yourself (for example `plugins/ServerVariables/variables/server_info.yml`).
4. Restart the server.

Uploading the full package again replaces your branding, prices, ranks and rewards with the defaults. Do it only on a fresh server.

## Updating plugins

You can update any plugin by replacing its jar. Read the plugin's own changelog first: some updates change their configuration format.
